Virtual Garage?

ProfiAuto Virtual Garage is a program in which the user navigates through a model virtual car repair shop. It includes several servicing scenarios, such as replacing discs, brake pads, shock absorbers or the battery. The program continuously corrects errors and teaches future car mechanics good habits. The virtual form allows for multiple repetitions of a given exercise at the same time, with no limitations on time or equipment.

ProfiAuto Virtual Garage can include an infinite number of scenarios and virtual teaching mock-ups, tailored to specific needs. It is thus a tool that can also be successfully used for remote learning, ongoing knowledge testing and even examinations. Partners in the ProfiAuto Virtual Garage project include leading spare parts manufacturers and institutions representing the State Treasury, education and new technologies:

From our perspective, the recent educational events we have had the opportunity to participate in (Dąbrowa Górnicza, Strzelce Opolskie, Rybnik, Pszczyna) are an excellent confirmation of how great the demand for knowledge from young mechanics and their teachers is. The amazing atmosphere created by Moto-Profil and the conditions prepared by the various educational institutions allow us to comfortably interact with each of the participants of these events and pass on technical knowledge and experience from our area of operation. Young audiences are keenly interested in the presented topics regarding batteries, they ask additional questions and participate in panel discussions; this means that we have invested our time in the right way. An innovative project based on a VR solution, where participants have the opportunity to gain practical skills in battery change, complements the training process. As a result, young car mechanics who will undertake professional activities at their future auto repair shops will not be surprised by service procedures for both handling and replacing the battery, and this means they will be adequately prepared for the challenges posed by the current automotive market in this area.

The training conducted by ProfiAuto regarding VR technology in teaching automotive courses enabled me to practically see the need for the development of this technology in schools. The new version of the virtual repair shop allows for customisation of the application settings to match the hardware capabilities of school workshops. The scenarios themselves and the ability to set different levels of their difficulty will allow me to teach my students the right algorithms to follow during repairs and make a smooth transition from VR technology to working in a real repair shop. Using the app itself requires some learning, but it didn't take me too long, and it will certainly be almost intuitive for students. Improvements made to the program, such as the ability to hold up to three items simultaneously or the need to use special tools, make for high realism of the scenario and without appropriate theoretical knowledge it is impossible to pass the scenario at 100%. The application continues to evolve, new scenarios are being created, which in the future can give us a full learning tool for the profession. I am also looking forward to the launch of the application on the Oculus platform, which will make it possible to fully enter the virtual world.
